Nominated Charities for The Tall Ships Races – Hartlepool 2010

Three of Hartlepool's favourite organisations have been chosen as the nominated charities for The Tall Ships Races - Hartlepool 2010 - the RNLI, Sea Cadets and Hartlepool and District Hospice.

Tall Ships Project Manager Michelle Daurat said: "We feel that these organisations perfectly reflect the ethos of the event. It's about doing good things for the town and its people. We will help to raise awareness of these worthy groups by involving them in our event marketing and public relations."

Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI)

The RNLI is the charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland. The volunteer crews give up their time and comfort to carry out rescues in difficult and often dangerous conditions.

Having celebrated over 200 years as a lifeboat station, Hartlepool RNLI operates two lifeboats – an all weather Trent class lifeboat and a B class Atlantic 75 lifeboat. The crews have been presented with 23 awards for gallantry, including one Gold Medal.

"We are pleased to be associated with the Tall Ships event and thrilled to be one of the nominated charities. Every penny raised goes towards helping to save lives at sea."
